Love Food- Hate Waste?
Date published: 08/03/2010
The next meeting of Prestwich Local Area Partnership takes place on Thursday 18th March, 6.30pm at Church Lane Community Centre and a variety of issues are up for discussion.
Prestwich residents will be encouraged to sign up and be greener and save money by joining the Love Food Hate Waste campaign.
The Government backed Love Food Hate Waste campaign aims to raise awareness of the need to reduce food waste. The campaign shows that by doing some easy practical everyday things in the home we can all waste less food, which will ultimately benefit our purses and the environment too.
Since the launch of the Love Food Hate Waste campaign in 2007, research shows that 1.8 million more UK households are now taking steps to cut back on the amount of food they throw away, resulting in an overall saving of £296 million a year, stopping 137,000 tonnes of food being thrown away.
Other items on agenda include an update from Bury Council’s Parks & Countryside on works in St Marys Park and other parks in Prestwich.
The “5 minutes – Meet the Partner” slot is being taken by the Clough Centenary Group who will provide an overview of their activities and priorities, and explain how these contribute to the work of the Partnership.
The Partnership will be considering a variety of grant applications from local organisations, including a clean up and fun day, counselling, children’s activities, nature day, sports equipment, community centre furniture and brass band concerts
There will also be the regular updates from the Police and LAP Manager as well as 30 minutes of Open Forum where the public can raise any issue.
Members of the public can meet the Partnership members from 6.15 over a cup of coffee.
Councillor Vic D’Albert, Prestwich Local Area Partnership Chairperson, said: “Once again we will have a wide variety of issues to consider not least the public forum where local residents can raise the issues that matter to them, so I would encourage anyone interested in Prestwich issues to attend.”
